Homework for the weekend

Hello everyone,

As scholars are finishing up our unit on ratios and proportions, they are completing a project using the mathematical concept of Scale Factor, which allows them to reduce or enlarge images. Their project is to design their dream classroom, using the measurements we took of the classroom on Thursday. The project is due on Wednesday, November 4th. All of the relevant information is here.

For Monday, their homework is to finalize their shopping list--they need to select the items they want to buy, which can't total more than $10,000. If they haven't completed their scale drawing of the classroom or their sketch of their dream design, they must also complete that before class on Monday.

Please email me at msatwill@gmail.com with any questions.

Homework and Classwork for the week of October 26th

Hello everyone,

This week, students are continuing their study of ratios and proportion and applying what they have learned to geometric shapes, using the constant of proportionality as a scale factor to reduce or enlarge objects. We will be studying lessons 1.16-1.21 this week.

On Monday, we will study lessons 1.16 and 1.17. The handout for those lessons is here. Tonight, scholars need to complete the homework for lessons 1.16 and 1.17, which can be found here along with the homework for Tuesday night, lesson 1.18.

On Tuesday, we will study lesson 1.18. The handout for the lesson is here, and the homework link is above with Monday's homework.

Scholars had a quiz last week, and they received their grades last Friday. Their corrections for the quiz are due this Friday. As a reminder, here are the guidelines for test/quiz corrections:

-Scholars can receive back up to half the points they missed
-Corrections must be on a separate sheet of paper and turned in with the test

For each question:
-They must show their work
-They must write a sentence explaining what they did wrong, or what they didn't understand before but they do understand now.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Homework for Wednesday, and quiz study suggestions!

Hello everyone,

Today scholars learned lesson 1.15. Tonight's homework, along with studying for the quiz, is here.

The quiz will be on lessons 1.11-1.15. Scholars will be able to use calculators, but they still need to understand how to compare, add, subtract, multiply and divide fractions. A helpful resource for studying for the quiz is the Homework Helper link to the right. Look at lessons 1.11-1.15 for an overview of the types of problems that will be on the quiz and how to solve them.

Finally, the quiz will be multiple choice, so scholars should be sure to review their Steps for Excellence.

There will be no homework on Thursday as we will spend the whole class period taking the quiz, and on Friday the only homework will be to complete quiz corrections, which will be due the following Friday.

Introducing...The Homework Helper!

Hello everyone,

I've been hearing lots of comments from scholars and parents that the homework is very difficult. While I grade homework for effort and completion, not accuracy, some scholars have asked for more help than their parents can give them, or would just like some more examples of completed problems.

With this in mind, I am going to post a link to the Homework Helper for this module (Chapter) to the right. It has a few practice problems for each lesson with the steps for how to do each one. If you have trouble using the Homework Helper, please let me know and I'll show you how to use it.

Good luck!

Homework and Classwork for Week of October 19th

Hello everyone,

Scholars will have a quiz this Thursday on ratios and unit rates of fractions. If you scholar is struggling with operations involving fractions (adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing) it is EXTREMELY important to review these operations. Here are some great fraction games to play online.

Monday, scholars learned lesson 1.13, and the homework for tonight and Tuesday night (Lesson 1.14) is here.

Starting with this coming assessment on Thursday, scholars who fail with a grade below 65% will be required to attend tutoring either at lunch or after school, and they will be sent home with a note explaining this that needs to be signed and returned. Scholars who fail with a grade from 65%-79% are highly encouraged to attend tutoring, but it is not required.

As always, please contact me with any questions at msatwill@gmail.com.

Homework and classwork for October 13-16

Hello there,

We had to make some adjustments to this week's lessons, so if you checked earlier there are some changes for the week. Scholars received their tests today, and their grades will be posted to Engrade this evening. Please email me at msatwill@gmail.com if you do not know how to access your scholar's engrade account.

Classwork for Tuesday's lesson, 1.11, is here.

Tuesday's homework on lesson 1.11 and Wednesday's homework for lesson 1.12 is here.

Wednesday's classwork for lesson 1.12 is here.

Today (Thursday), rather than continue a new lesson, we reviewed the content from last week's test. The homework for tonight is to work on test corrections. (If you don't remember how to do those, check out the earlier posts!)

Scholars don't have any homework due on Friday, as Friday is a field day, but they do need to work on their test corrections, which are due next Thursday.

As always, please contact me with any questions.

Homework and classwork for October 5-9

Hi there,

Today in class (Monday) we completed lesson 1.7, and the handout is available here. For tonight's homework, complete lesson 1.7 on this handout, and for tomorrow (Tuesday's) homework, complete lesson 1.8-1.9 on the same handout. Tomorrow's handout for lessons 1.8-1.9 is here, and Wednesday's handout for lesson 1.10 is here. Wednesday's homework is to come up with three questions from lessons 1.1-1.10 that you need help with, and on Thursday during class we will have a review session. There is no homework besides studying for the exam on Thursday night.

On Friday, scholars will be having a midpoint exam for chapter 1, which will cover lessons 1.1-1.10 so make sure to study throughout the week!

If you need more help, look in chapter 5 of the textbook (book A, the light green one), or look up ratios and proportions in your favorite website to the right!
